Jameson review with Ed and Tom Sunday, March 16, 2008.
Back in January of 2008, Brad Mayo, the President of Jameson Cigar Co. contacted me on Herf Space to try out his new cigar line. Naturally we accepted, and he sent out some pre-release cigars. Ed and I sat down and critiqued the cigar, and sent him our opinion. Now that the cigar has officially been launched, here is our review of the Jameson.
Jameson Pre-release cigar review by Ed and Tom.
Review date: 1/16/08
Size: Corona 6X44
Wrapper: Sumatra
Binder: Honduras
Filler: Dominican Republic
Pre-Light:
The construction was great. My draw was a little stiff, but Ed said his was perfect. My draw stiffness wasn’t anything that distracted me from the smoke. I am just picky with draw.
The first 3rd opened up with a peppery taste. Ed noticed a touch of wood. The body and strength was medium and smooth.
The second 3rd continued the peppery taste, with a little earth and a touch of wood. The strength began to increase. The earthy taste increased as well.
The last 3rd was peppery, with a little earth, and a touch of wood. It progressed to a lot of earth, and walnut crept in. The woody flavor increased as well.
Overall:
Tom’s summary: I enjoyed the smoke. The burn was good through out. If you saw our Canimao video review, I think overall it was as enjoyable as that, and at some points, better. Like Ed, I do not like a lot of dirt/earthy taste. But I did like the combination of flavors the Jameson offered. I will smoke this again.
Ed’s summary: At first he enjoyed the flavors. But as it became more earthy, his enthusiasm decreased. He said things like (paraphrasing), “It’s decent but there are so many earthy smokes out there, he may want to change up the blend a little. He may find it hard to sell this cigar since it has a common earthy flavor so many other smokes have.”
Ed and I agreed to disagree on this cigar.
