Casa Havana with Ed and Tom
Tonight’s cigars were kindly gifted to me by Rich. The cigars are from a local place in Madeira Beach, Florida. It’s called Casa Havana Cigar and Cafe, and I hear it’s nice place. They roll their own cigars, and we sampled a couple. More info can be found at http://www.casahavanacigarcafe.com/.
Contrary to the first picture in the slide show, the Maduro is on the bottom, and the Natural is on the top. I don’t have any information pertaining to the blend, and don’t have definite cigar size info. I’d say they were in the low 50 ring gauge, and maybe 6 inches long. I also don’t have a price yet. Ed smoked the natural, which was simply labeled “Torpedo Medium,” and I smoked the maduro, which was labeled “Torpedo Maduro.”
Before lighting, we found the cigars to have good construction, with a few soft spots at the foot. The smell was just a nice tobacco odor but nothing stood out.
First 3rd:
Ed – Initially there weren’t any flavors, just a very smooth, mild to upper mild body. A slight earthy tone came and went. Towards the end of the first 3rd, Ed noted his cigar tasted very dry. He used the term “Cardboard” a couple times.
Me – Considering I was smoking a different cigar then Ed, my experience varied a little. I had a slight pepper through the sinuses. About an inch in, I noticed a slight earthy tone that came and went quickly. Towards the end of this third, the pepper increased slightly.
Second 3rd:
Ed – The slight earthy tone reappeared. He really could not pick out any more flavors. The cigar continued to give him a dry, “Cardboard” sensation, and all flavor eventually went away. He put this smoke down before entering the last 3rd.
Me – The slight pepper continued, and there were no other definite flavors. As I got deeper into this third, I found that the taste fell flat. The pepper went away, and I was left with an ashy taste in my mouth and sinuses. I also started to get cotton mouth and a dry sensation. Towards the end of this third, the cigar was telling me to put it down, which I did.
Conclusion:
Ed and I agreed that this is a cigar for those who are perhaps drinking, doing yard work, or various activities where you won’t really be paying attention to the cigar. It may also be OK for a beginner smoke.
Unfortunately, we are forced to give these two cigars a thumbs down. I have a couple other cigars that I believe are different blends. I will give them a try and post my findings here. Now, on to some pictures.
