La Herencia De Cuba ‘Yellow Label’

Size: 50×5 Robusto

Blend – ???

Tonight’s smoke comes from the once cigar capitol, Ybor City. La Herencia De Cuba rolls it’s own cigars on site, and is run and owned by the Ramirez family. This little shop/factory is pretty cool to visit. The entire rolling process is done in the store for you to see. This cigar has been sitting since November of last year, and I figured it was time to review it.

The construction was good and firmly packed, but bounced back when squeezed. The triple cap was perfect, and a pet peeve of mine… The band was just right, and slid off with no problems. The ash was nice and white, and held on for about an inch before falling off. Physically, everything looked good.

First Third -
In the medium range, this third basically consisted of a nutty, woody flavor. About an inch in, a slight earthy flavor crept in. When I say earthy, I am referring to a soil like scent or flavor.

Second Third -
The nutty flavor continued, and the slight earthy notes remained as well. A toasty flavor came in to the picture during this third.

Last Third -
Again, nutty/toasty flavors remained. The earthness faded, and a slight harshness started to set in. It wasn’t bad, but enough to irritate me. A strange card board like taste came in to the picture, and it was time to put this smoke down with around an inch and a half un-smoked.

Conclusion:
In October of 2007, Jeremiah and I smoked these in the store, and while checking out Ybor City’s various cigar shops. They seemed much more enjoyable then. I suspect this was due to us checking out all the cigar stores in Ybor City, and basically being side tracked and just hanging out.

Would I recommend this cigar? Perhaps if you don’t smoke to the nub, or if you are looking for a ‘hang out’ cigar. But chances are, I won’t be pursuing these unless I end up in the shop again. Considering some of the other local made cigars we smoked that day, the La Herencia De Cuba put many of them to shame.

As always, the amazing slide show.
