Drink Paring & Cigars-The Glenlivet 12 Year Single Malt Scotch Whisky
| From The_Glenlivet |
Anyone who knows me is aware that I despise alcohol and it’s devastating effects. I consider myself a non-drinker for sure. The idiocy and redundant experience alcohol abuse offers repulses me in every way. I’ve been there and done that…
This is why I had mixed feelings recently when I was gifted a bottle of The Glenlivet single malt scotch whisky, aged 12 years. I am willing to try something that can enhance the cigar smoking experience, so why not… For example, check out this article Dale has on The Stogie Review. It really peaked my interest. The purpose isn’t to drink to get drunk, but to enhance and cleanse the pallet for the next puff of your cigar.
After lighting up a Dona Flor with my usual cup of water, I decided to take a small sip of scotch. To my delight, my pallet was totally cleansed. The flavors from the cigar jumped out at me unlike before. Initially, the scotch left a warmth on the pallet, which combined with the cigar to create very interesting flavors. Shortly after, the scotch taste went away, and I was left with a great tasting cigar. I took a two small sips for each third of the cigar. Between sips, I stuck with the standard water. At no point did I feel intoxicated, although it made me a little tired considering I have no tolerance for alcohol.
In conclusion, I don’t see myself drinking this stuff too often. Although I have to admit, I am pleased with the results of my first experiment in pairing this drink with cigars. I would recommend you try experimenting with it as well. If your goal is to abuse alcohol, get something cheaper. But if you simply wish enhance your smoking experience, dropping around $30 for a bottle of aged single malt scotch may be worth while.

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll have to check out the Macallen one of these days.
Ed and I should be on track for a review very soon. I suspect he may have the new Macanudo in mind, but I’m not positive.
