Nub Connecticut & S.Pellegrino Mineral Water

In my never ending quest to find the perfect drink that will cleanse my pallet, tonight I went with S.Pellegrino mineral water. It does not impart any flavors, and the slight fizz helps reset the pallet. Obviously water can’t compare to a good scotch, but this does the trick when I don’t want any alcohol. On to the cigar…
Nub Connecticut
Wrapper: Connecticut
Filler: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua
Size: 4X64 Torpedo
Price: $5 – $6.00
Construction:
The wrapper looked great, with no visible flaws and minimal veins. This little cigar is packed with tobacco and well constructed. The ash was firm and compact. I only ashed once in the final third.
The flavors:
Without delay, the first third started off with very slight earthy notes. A smooth, almost buttery flavor was present, and nutty notes remained in the background. Combined with all of these flavors, I found pleasant pepper when passing the smoke through the sinus.
The second third was very similar to the first. The exception being the earthy notes went away, and the nutty flavors increased slightly. The entire flavor profile went up a notch, putting this cigar well in to the medium body range. The pepper/spice was very nice going through the sinus.
The last third continued with very smooth, buttery, nutty and peppery notes. To stop there wouldn’t do this cigar justice. This third was just a complex as the first two. There was a subtle sweetness that I noticed in the aftertaste, and there was a nice cooling sensation on the lips.
Conclusion:
This is easily one of my favorite Connecticut wrapped cigars. I’d put this against the Por Larranaga Connecticut any day. It can fit the bill at any time of the day. The complexities of the flavor profile kept me interested, which is why I keep some of these on hand at all times. Don’t be fooled by its awkward appearance. This cigar takes around 1 to 1.5 hours to smoke, and I would strongly recommend giving the Nub Connecticut a try.
And now, the amazing slide show:
