Acid Red Nefasto

After having mixed results with the Acid Kuba Kuba, I thought it was only fair to give the Acid line one more chance. This cigar is touted as “The most intense Acid smoking experience of your life.”  As for the blend, they only say it is ripe black tobaccos with unbridled infusion of oil laced recipes.

Pre-Smoke & construction:

The wrapper was nice looking with minimal veins. Although there were a few soft spots in the cigar, the construction looked good. The head donned a pigtail, and the foot had overlapping wrapper that covered the filler and binder. The cigar smelled like a strong spice. I’ll have to go with cinnamon combined with a perfume of some kind. The pre-light draw was free, and tasted basically like it smelled. For the first half of the cigar, I had to constantly correct the burn line, but it straightened out eventually. The ash held on for about an inch, and never fell off until I initiated it.

Flavor:

As soon as I lit up, the first third greeted me with a spice that reminded me of cinnamon and potpourri. In the background, there was a hint of earth.

During the second third, the earthy notes went away completely. The potpourri and cinnamon flavors calmed down a little. The overall experience smoothed out slightly.

The flavor went away in the last third. Well, not completely. I basically had a hint of spice combined with an ultra cheap tobacco taste. A slight harsh tone set in that started to irritate the back of the throat. I called it quits at this point.

Conclusion:

The first two thirds gave me hope that I’d be able to make it until the end. Unlike the Kuba Kuba, this one seemed like a more enjoyable smoke. Unfortunately, the last third was unacceptable in every way. I think my venture into the Acid line is over. Sorry Drew Estates, I tried two Acid cigars, and both ended up being inferior. Thumbs down…

Who would review something with the catch phrase “The most intense Acid smoking experience of your life.”

I mean come on. That sounds like the chances of your palette being stripped away and any semblance of what was your tongue being left in tatters…

I guess the cigar world needs Brave Men too.

Aaron- I think they are worth a try, just for the sake of saying “I tried.” I did get some other Gurkha’s. I’ll have to dig in the humidor and review em. I can’t remember what I have now.

Calestus – You are right. The catch phrase did concern me. And for good reason apparently! Am I brave, or a glutton for punishment? I haven’t decided yet.

Thank you for reviewing something I don’t have to go out and buy or at least add to my buy list!

Since you did a pre-light draw, I’m guessing you cut the foot before lighting? I wonder if lighting the wrapper around the foot would give you a big ‘slap’ of whatever they infuse the wrapper leaf with?

I did not cut the foot. By the time I toated the foot, a lot of that excess wrapper burned off, so no slap in the face effect. That came later, when things turned nasty.

Never had any luck with any of the Drew Estate cigars – Acid, Mocha or Chateau Real. Have to admit – gave up on them.
