Don Pepin Garcia Series JJ (White Label)

As I was leaving Ed’s shop not long ago, he handed me this cigar to review. I haven’t had any before, so hopefully everything goes well. The beverage of choice tonight is water and a sip or two of Glenfiddich 18 year scotch.
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo
Binder: Nicaraguan Crillo
Filler: Nicaraguan Corojo & Criollo
Size: Robusto 5 x 50
Price: Around $8.00
Pre-Smoke/Construction:
The wrapper is a nice tan color with minimal veins. When squeezing, only a couple of soft spots were noticed. Overall, construction appears to be good, all the way to the triple cap. When sniffing the wrapper and foot, it simply smells like sweet tobacco. The pre-light draw was free, and tasted like tobacco.
Flavor:
Right away, the first third had a nice spicy pepper. It was very smooth, but did have a bit of a punch. It was enjoyable, but there was really nothing more to it then that. The burn required quite a bit of attention since it kept trying to burn crooked.

The second third continued with smooth pepper. As I dug further in, I noticed woody notes that increased in strength and started to over take the pepper. The burn continued to require touch ups, but started to calm down towards the end.

The pepper really mellowed out in the last third. Very slight earthy notes came and went, and coffee flavors took over. A woody flavor remained and was very noticeable. The burn was fine during this third.
Conclusion:
This was a very enjoyable medium to full bodied cigar. Each third showed progress and improvement in the flavor profile. Other then the initial burn issues, I have nothing bad to say about this cigar. I will definitely try more of these.

They are definately worth trying. I heard of them from Jerry over at The Stogie Review awhile back.
