Cupido Tuxedo
I reached into the sampler pack that the fine people at Duque Cigars sent me, and ended up with today’s review. I’ve never heard of this brand, nor have I smoked one. CWS, a regular here, informed me Cuban Crafters out of Miami makes the Cupido line. They claim the tobaccos are produced in the Dominican Republic with “Seriously aged Ligero long fillers and binder.”
Wrapper: Dominican Cuban seed maduro
Filler & Binder: Nicaragua & Dominican
Size: Robusto 5 x 50
Price: Around $5.00

Pre-Smoke & Construction:
This is a nice looking cigar with a simple band. The wrapper has minimal veins, and smells like hay. The pre-light draw had slight resistance, with sweet/earthy notes. The ash held on for over an inch, and confirmed that this was a well constructed cigar. I had a small tear near the band, but it wasn’t a problem.
Flavor:
The first third had slight earthy notes combined with sweet flavors that I couldn’t pin down. All the while, a smooth pepper was noticed when passing through the sinus.

The second third pretty much remained the same at the first. The only difference I could detect was at the end, slight mocha notes lingered way in the background.

The last third developed a creamy feel to it. The pepper took a back seat, and allowed the sweet flavors to shine. There was no mocha, but perhaps an espresso sweetness.

Conclusion:
This was a good medium to upper medium body cigar. I didn’t find myself saying “Wow,” but it tasted good, and was very relaxing. The pepper wasn’t over bearing, but reminded you it was there when retro-haling. Although simple, it was a well balanced cigar.
