Contest! Don Ramon Maduro

I am solo for this review, and it’s obvious that it is much better when Ed is around. I gave it a shot anyway.

I was a little suprised when Andrew Roth from the H.J. Bailey Company contacted me to review this cigar. I told him my standard disclaimer that I am obligated to give an honest review no matter what. I warned him of similar situations in the past where we gave bad reviews to a cigar and basically rubbed people the wrong way. Despite the risk, he was up to the challenge. It’s always good to see a company utilize us little bloggers and risk taking some lumps along the way.

Walt and I had different experiences with this cigar. His thoughts can be found here. Doc Stogie Fresh reviewed the same cigar but in a larger ring guage. His review is located here. I found the cigar to be simple, but still enjoyable.

For the final contest from the H.J. Bailey Company, I am raffling off my remaining Don Ramon Maduro cigars (around 20-23 smokes!). Entering is easy… Just leave a comment here on this review, and you’ll be entered to win. In a week or so, I’ll announce the winner. In the mean time, see what I thought of this cigar.

Another solid review Tom. With or without Ed, you got a great thing going on there at Tom’s Cigars. Your review makes me hope that I win the Don Ramon Maduros. Looks like a nice easy going smoke. Thanks Tom.

Simple cigars is what i like. It don’t need to kick my ass to smoke a good cigar. I love what you guys do and keep up the good work. I always look forward to your reviews, it helps me find new cigars to try and buy. lol it kinda rymed. Well good day to all and smoke till yall’s delight.

Tom,
I’m glad you picked up a mocha or chocolate flavor in the cigar. That is the kind of flavor profile that I like to find in Maduro cigars. I am mainly a Maduro smoker and it was good to hear that the cigar didn’t disappoint you. The construction and burn looks good from what I can see and when you ashed the cigar, it seemed to have a nice conical shape. Thanks for the review.

Smooth, mocha and chocolate! I like! One of my favorite flavour profiles in a maduro cigar! Keep up the good work! Your solo reviews are also very good! Thanks!

Ruud.

Hi Tom. Good review as usual. I personally like Maudro wrapped cigars the best, next to Connecticut Shade and Cameroon. I didn’t get picked for your last contest, so I hope to win this time around!

Alex from detroit March 10th, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Great Review Tom! The flavor profile on this cigar seems like they would be right up my alley since i tend to prefer maduro wrappers. I am also somewhat of a novice smoker, so I can appreciate the simple and not overly complex flavors that you described.

Nice video review, sounds like a decent “medium” cigar.

Stew March 10th, 2009 at 4:12 pm

Tom,

Another fine review. I have never tried these so I was happy to see a new cigar (at least for me) on a video review. Looks good too.

Nice review as always Tom. It’s nice to see you mixing the video reviews in with the written versions. BTW that is a cool looking ashtray. Never seen anything like it.

Nice review Tom. I have heard some good thing about these sticks over the last couple weeks. Looking forward to more from you and Ed.

Also congrats on the somewhat “hate” mail that I know you are always yearning for!

Another great review Tom. Even without Ed, I still loved watching this review. And it makes me want to try these cigars even more! Maybe I’ll get lucky and win the contest.

Simple smokes are always good too, and nothing wrong with mocha flavors for sure.

Nice review. Seems like this would just be an OK cigar from your review so I will add these to my list of ones to try if I find them in my local stores or sometime online if I do some singles/samplers/5-pack orders.

I also watched the natural review which seemed to say the same – nice smoke, but nothing special. Just an everyday nice cigar to have in the humidor.

Thanx for the giveaway opportunity also!

Mike

Sidenote – Where did you get your humidor?

MountChuck March 21st, 2009 at 10:09 am

Very nice review. I hadn’t seen these before. I’ll have to give them a shot.

beezer March 21st, 2009 at 2:58 pm
