J. Fuego Delirium
This cigar was given to me from my good friend Ed over at St. Pete Pipe & Cigars. For the record, this is the first time I’ve smoked this cigar. Ed tried one and wasn’t enthused, so he handed one to me to see what I thought. As always, I am pairing up with Florida tap water that is PUR filtered.
Wrapper: Brazilian Maduro
Binder: Costa Rican Corojo
Filler: Honduras and Nicaragua
Size: Corona 5.5 x 46
Price: Around $5.00

Pre-smoke & Construction:
The dark maduro wrapper looked very nice, with a couple large veins running though it. The cigar was very firmly packed, and the pre-light draw was a little stiff (but not bad). When sniffing the foot and wrapper, I was reminded of hay or grass. Taking a draw through the unlit cigar had the same taste. Overall, the construction and pre-smoke inspection went well. The burn required a few corrections, and the ash was tight and held on for an inch or so.
Flavor:
The first third had a somewhat slow start. Initially I was greeted with an unknown sweet flavor. About 1/2 inch in, I detected faint cocoa and an even more faint earthy taste. There was a definite sweet spice when passing through the sinus. I was left with a parched feeling that left me craving water.

As I got into the second third, a cocoa flavor increased quite a bit. One draw would be pure cocoa, and the other would have almost none. The sweet spice was still present, and the earthy notes I had before were almost gone.

The mocha/cocoa flavors pretty much dominated the last third, until… With about two inches left of the cigar, the flavor fell flat. The cocoa was hard to detect, and a harsh sensation took over.

Conclusion:
For the most part, I liked the cigar, until the last third went bad. I didn’t mind the cotton mouth too much, but the harshness in the last third forced me to put this stick down. Since this was the only time I’ve smoked this cigar, I have to base my opinion on it alone. I have to give it a thumbs down.

I want to try the defiance as well. That was another cigar that Ed did not like. But considering the good things I’ve heard about it, I figure it’s at least worth a try.
