Jesus Fuego 777

With mixed results from the J. Fuego Delirium, I though it was time to try another cigar from the master blender Jesus Fuego. My friend Ed donated the cigar for me to review. As I often do, I paired up with PUR filtered water, and a few sips of The Glenlivet 12 year scotch.

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Criollo Maduro

Binder/Filler: Nicaraguan

Size: Belicoso 5.5 x 54

Price: Around $5.00

Pre-smoke & Construction:

After clipping the head with my trusty Xikar scissors, I proceeded to the pre-light inspection. This is a little routine I go through every time I have a smoke. The wrapper was dark with minimal veins. The cigar was very firm and packed with tobacco. When sniffing the foot and wrapper, I easily detected a woody and peppery spice. The pre-light draw was good with slight resistance, and had the same flavors. The burn was great, requiring two corrections. The ash held on for over an inch, and took effort to knock off.

Flavors:

The first third opened up with earthy notes. It took a little over an inch before chocolate and sweet flavors came in. Once they did, I started to enjoy this cigar more. When retrohaling, a nice spicy pepper completed the flavor profile.

The second third continued with chocolate and sweet flavors. Very subtle earthy notes lingered in the background. The pepper started to mellow in this third as well. All in all, it was good.

The last third showed a little change. The chocolate notes dominated the flavor profile. I still detected a slight pepper through the sinus, but it was pretty mellow. As the cigar came to a close, I did notice a woody flavor.

Conclusion:

I found this medium to full bodied cigar enjoyable. I wouldn’t call it a “Wow” cigar, but I wouldn’t call it bad at all. Ed didn’t care for it, but every now and then, we don’t fully agree on a cigar. This must be one of those occasions. I’d have to suggest you pick one up and see for yourself.

I just love this cigar. I actually love everything J. Fuego creates but your right in saying it isn’t a “wow” cigar.

Good review

I had the opportunity to get these at 30% off MSRP at my local B&M, and have fallen in love! Unfortunately they have no more at this price (I bought them all over 3 visits to the shop) but I will ration the box and 1/2 or so I scored in singles of various sizes.

Great smoke!

It’s hard to be objective and not compare all cigars to a “Wow” cigar like a Padron 1926 or the like. I find myself being snobbish and have to snap myself out of it when doing a review. Overall, this was worth trying.

Good review. I’m enjoying one of these J. Fuego torpedoes as I type… while watching the Navy – Mizzou game. I received five torpedoes as a Christmas gift from a friend and I’m enjoying this first one. This is a good cigar, and one I might add to my list of regulars.
