5 vegas miami

Thanks to Matt for giving me a couple of these cigars to try. I’ve heard a lot of buzz on the streets about the 5 Vagas Miami, mainly the knuckle size. All the hype, both good and bad, made reviewing this cigar a must. The only background I have on this cigar is Don Pepin had his hand in this blend. At least that’s what I read somewhere on the Internet. You know the routine by now… I’m pairing this cigar with PUR filtered tap water, and perhaps a swig of Glenfiddich 18 year scotch. On to the review!

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Cuban seed Nicaraguan & Dominican

Size: “Knuckle” 4.5 x 60

Price: around $6.00

Pre-smoke & Construction:

Giving the cigar a onceover, it looked nice. The wrapper was a little veiny, and donned a nice triple cap. Squeezing the cigar revealed one or two soft spots, but nothing concerning. Sniffing the wrapper and foot reminded me of soil. The pre-light draw had some resistance, and again, tasted earthy. The first two thirds required quite a few burn corrections. The ash held on for almost two inches before falling off.

flavor:

The first third was very simple. Pepper with earthy notes. It had some power behind it if that makes sense. Really, there is nothing more to add.

The second third… Pepper, spicy pepper. As this third came to a close, the pepper started to mellow out a bit. This allowed the earthy notes to stand out a little more.

The last third continued peppery spicy flavors. The earthy notes faded and almost went away completely. With that change came a woody flavor. It was fairly strong. As I progressed toward the end of this cigar, a harshness started to irritate the top of my mouth and throat. I am quite good at observing the obvious, so I put this cigar down.

Conclusion:

What can I say… This is a full bodied cigar. The flavors were pretty simple and one dimensional. I’m glad to say my experience wasn’t nearly as bad as Jerry and Stew had, but I did find myself getting bored with the flavor profile. I didn’t have a horrible experience, but the harshness in the last third forces me to sum up the 5 Vegas Miami in one word… Meh…

I tried one of these that came in a 5 pack sampler sent to me from CI after I complained about about some horrible 5 vegas red label cigars I bought from them…they were so bad, that u could’nt pay me to smoke them…anyways, the 5 vegas miami sucked..it was dry and harsh on the palate

I have enjoyed most 5 Vegas cigars and I think the Series A is exceptionally good. I would also say the Cask Aged II is pretty intresting; the II is a much better smoke than the original “Cask”. The Gold and Classic seem to be aimed at Macanudo smokers and I would say they are as good as those mild sticks. I say this because since these others are good to excelent I expected a really stellar smoke with one that is called “Miami” and is made by Don Pepin Garcia. I am sorry to say that isn’t the case as far as the several I’ve smoked out of the box I purchased. This cigar just is at least medium in body yet not very interesting – or particularly flavorful in a way that resonates with me. When I smoke these burning wood is all that really comes to mind…Perhaps, a Miami II can do what the II did for the Cask Aged?
