Cool Find-Carlito’s Stogie Nubber

This past Sunday, I was out and about in Tampa Florida. I  figured I’d pay a visit to a shop I’ve never been to called Tampa Humidor. I was impressed with their selection, staff, and large smoking lounge. As I cashed out, I noticed a strange device sitting on the counter.

Enter Carlito’s Stogie Nubber.

The concept is simple enough… Just poke it and smoke it. Easy. I had to have it. For around $12.00 I figured why not?

Is this the device that will help me say goodbye to using a toothpick as a makeshift roach clip? Will this be the end of burnt fingertips? Let’s find out…

I lit up a Canimao and relaxed for awhile. As the cigar got smaller and hotter, I broke out Carlito’s Stogie Nubber. I followed the directions given on their website and…

Holy shit this thing works! The size is perfect, and easily fits into my pocket. It works much better then the old toothpick, and is certainly better then burning the fingers. If you are a gadget geek, this will be a must for your cigar accessories collection.

Tom,
I thought long and hard about ordering one when I first saw them on the old Club Stogie Forum. Thinking back to my experience using a metal paper clip, I decided to pass on it. For whatever reason I just got an occasional metallic taste using it and thought I would get the same result from the Stogie Nubber.

A few months ago one was handed to me at a cigar shop by a friend of mine. The size is nice and it has a nice heft to it, but I just can’t bring myself to moving away from my trusty wooden toothpick. I do get a burnt wood taste from time to time, but I don’t mind it as much as the metallic flavor and think of it as an early warning sign to finally give up on the stick.

Walt – Makes sense, who wants a metallic tasting cigar. To be honest, I don’t recall getting a metallic taste with the nubber. Next time I use it, which will be very soon, I’ll pay extra attention and follow up.

The one time I used it, I didn’t notice any flavor change though. I smoked an old standby for the review as well.

Stay tuned and thanks for the comment!

I saw these online and it looked interesting but passed on it. Didn’t Ed use something similar in one of your video reviews, I remember him unscrewing something and skewering the nub. Anyway, I’ve been using a stainless steel olive fork that came with a martini set… works great for me, and no metallic taste whatsoever lol.

Update – I tried the nubber tonight and did not notice a metallic taste.

Stan – Ed uses some kind of little poker that is pretty cool and compact.

Is this heavy? Looks like it might have some heft to it. Nice that it lets you poke the cigar and then use the nubber as a stand! I so far have used toothpicks and even a small screwdriver (REALLY small one) :) I was thinking of getting that MTX tool thing to use, but just havent picked it up yet. I have never seen anything like this locally (go figure-we just get EVERYTHING around here *rolling eyes*) but will keep my eyes open!

The gadget geek in me says THANX!
Mike
