Canimao Robusto Extra + CONTEST!

Box2The Contest is now over! Click here to see who won.

I was at a Canimao event last month, and got to chill with the President and CEO of the company, Mel Gonzalez. His master blender Vincente Garcia was there as well, and he rolled cigars all night.

Mel really made us pay attention to the flavors in the cigars we smoked that night and demanded our feedback. It was great to see that he wasn’t just there to push product. He displayed a passion for his small boutique cigar company that was refreshing.

This gave me the idea of reviewing the Robusto Extra, and giving away a box on this site. Mel was all for it. He signed a box immediately and donated it for the raffle.

To enter, you have to be at least 18 years of age, and you can only enter once. Simply leave a comment here on this post. Please leave valid contact info, or I won’t be able to contact you if you win. Your email address will be kept confidential.

That’s it! In a couple weeks, a random winner will be drawn. And let’s not forget to thank Mel and Canimao for generously sponsoring this contest!

In the mean time, check out what Ed and I thought of the Canimao Robusto Extra in the latest installment of The Ed  & Tom Show. This video runs 22 minutes.

Carsten November 3rd, 2009 at 4:23 am

great review as always! with regards to Ed never having had a bad Brazilian, I actually had a couple of Dona Flors that overstayed their welcome in my humidor, they turned very bitter in the last half for some reason .. I still smoked them though :)

A well aged Cuban November 3rd, 2009 at 4:59 am

Here we go again. Good luck me.

I’ve sure entered a lot of contests, but never won. Here’s hoping to end the trend. By the way, excellent review. It’s amazing how Ed’s palate picks up all those nuances.

marvin November 5th, 2009 at 6:43 am

Hi all,

here we go again. Good luck me.

Daniel Counsell November 5th, 2009 at 10:50 am

Hey I just wanted to say thanks for these reviews. While I have not been able to find many of the cigars you review at my local tobaconist, I have found the tips you have given for tasting cigars very helpful.
Shortly after a friend introduced me to cigars a few months ago I found your “how to smoke a cigar” tutorial. I feel that that video really gave me a basis for experiencing a cigar rather than just smoking it.
Thanks for helping to launch me on a great hobby.

Stephen Gary November 5th, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Thanks for the donation, the cigars look tasty!!

ERNDOG November 5th, 2009 at 5:58 pm

Sticks November 5th, 2009 at 8:09 pm

Great review and a great cigar. I would walk over hot coals to get to the other side if a box of Canimao’s were on the other side.

David Hollingsworth November 12th, 2009 at 10:21 am

I always enjoy and appreciate the reviews. You guys do a great job.

I just finished a Canimao corona. This is a really nice cigar; it had an almost perfect burn, and was a very plesant medium-full bodied cigar that reminded me somewhat of the Hoya Excalibur, which I love.

It’s a keeper.

sam a November 12th, 2009 at 1:23 pm

still havn’t tried a canimao, heres my chance!

Ozzy November 13th, 2009 at 12:38 am

I could sure use a nice box of cigars! My humidor is running painfully low. Help out a college student, and enter me in the contest :D

Thank you

Love the Tom and Ed Show! I hope I win!

Jan November 14th, 2009 at 9:50 am

Thanks for the great info and entertainment.
The reviews are great!

DAG November 14th, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Hey, Nice review of the Canimao. Some good info in cigar review index. I added your site to my list of favorites. Take Care.

Brandt November 15th, 2009 at 7:50 am

Excellent “work” as always. I am so glad that you guys review cigars that are off the beaten path. So many push mostly big corporate wares and overlook the “little” guys. It’s nice to buy a product made by someone like Mel who obviously has passion for his craft and is just trying to make a living in the current unfriendly environment.

I just had a Canimao Churchill and it was quite excellent. The new blend sounds like a must try for me.

Tony Casas November 15th, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Another Great review man, keep it up!

Ben November 15th, 2009 at 5:11 pm

Thanks for the reviews!

Josh Pratt November 15th, 2009 at 9:35 pm

You and Ed make a great team. Looks like a fine box of cigars.

Stan aka SoCal32 on Stogiereview Fan Forum November 15th, 2009 at 10:41 pm

Sounds good Tom!

Garrick November 15th, 2009 at 10:55 pm

WHEE for FREE!

Ah i’m kidding. But seriously, in Australia it’s almost impossible to break free of the limited range of non cuban smokes. Love to try some of the rarities!

jeff burlingame November 16th, 2009 at 2:46 am

another great review. i’ll try anything, but still haven’t found one better than the padilla 1932′s, even though i can’t afford them!!!! if you haven’t had the drawing yet, put me in.

lee elderton November 16th, 2009 at 11:35 am

great review. make it even better by sending me some sticks.

I love trying new stuff! Thanks

John M November 22nd, 2009 at 12:45 am

Thumbs up! Very helpful reviews – let’s me see I am having similar reactions to various cigars.

JimP November 22nd, 2009 at 8:57 am

I’m a newbie who has come across your site. I noticed the cigars from Canimao, and was immediately struck with the deep dark rich color of the stick. To me that indicates the potential for a rich flavor, I can only hope to experience the smoking of these cigars.

Jim Palmere

Steven November 22nd, 2009 at 1:31 pm

Great review and contest. I’ll keep my eye for the smoke at my local cigar shop.

Tom November 22nd, 2009 at 7:40 pm

The contest is now over. The winner will be announced soon. Thanks to all of you who entered. And thanks to Mel from Canimao Cigars!
