May 2010 Cigar Site of the Month – TheCigarNut.com

Anyone who has been visiting this site knows my fondness of this month’s cigar site of the month. But first I have small rant to get out of the way…

I can’t take it anymore… All of these cigar blogs out there, and many of them turn in to crap. They come out of the gate swinging and dwindle to mediocrity. I understand life happens, so why not just end the site or let the readers know what’s up? I it see too often, a post every month or two as the site becomes smaller and smaller. Dying a slow pitiful death…

Before you haters start posting, let me say first… I’m not implying TomsCigars.com is some great model site. I’m not even implying the content here is good. If anything, the message you should get from this place is that virtually any cigar smoker can do this. Chances are quite a few readers will enjoy and learn from you, even if you have an average palate like me. But enough of my sniveling…

David, who runs The Cigar Nut, took a different approach. He found a pattern that was realistic to his lifestyle. Even if it is one or two posts a week, I can always count on consistent reviews. When life gets in the way, he let’s his readers know what happened.

So if consistent, honest reviews are important to you, go visit The Cigar Nut!

Hi Tom,
I have to agree with you. The standard of a majority of these ‘Cigar review’ sites has gone downhill a lot over the last year or so. As I have said on another site I am a bit a technophobe and definitely have a allergic reaction to ‘social networking’ sites’ (Don’t get me started on twitter!!!) so I spend about an hour a day just visiting a few sites, mainly cigar related.
My point is that the number of sites I visited regularly a year or so ago compared to the number I visit now has fallen drastically. My personal opinion is that in that great country of yours there was another mini cigar boom like in the 90′s and quite a few people started there own sites thinking it was an easy way to get a few freebies and see there names in lights. Which is fine of course but they soon run out of things to say on a subject they are not really that sure of and maybe started doing for the wrong reasons in the first place. Some of these I really can’t watch or read anymore, not only do they not really seem to grasp that it is only Cigars we are talking about but they also take themselves far too seriously.
Anyway Tom, thanks for letting me have my little rant and and thanks for being one of my personal ‘originals’.

Join us on Twitter. I use it only for cigar related BS’ing, and my monthly twitter rants (Aimed at having people block me). But yea, “Social Networking” is out of control. My pet peeve it facebook. It is the new, or latest MySpace. People posting ridiculous facts about themselves and maintaining virtual farms? C’mon guys, just get a website if you are that starved for human interaction. Facebook is the devil.

I totally overlooked a point you made. A lot of people started up cigar sites in hope of free swag and money. All that stuff is neat but shouldn’t be your motivation. I have no problem with sites who have a serious side, but like you said… It is just cigars. So don’t go overboard with this hardcore smoker thing.

Anyhow it’s always a pleasure when you drop by the site. Rant away, I can assure you I won’t delete or edit your comments, they are gold!

Tom as a cigar guy who just started his own review site I totally agree I run a huge company during the week and dont have all day to run my review site so I decided that one or two reviews a week is all I can handle now and that is what i,m going to stick to but you have to keep your audience aware of whats going on so they know, not that I have one yet haha. Anyway keep up the good work.
